The “son of man” or the “child of mankind” is an important archetypal figure in the Biblical tradition which points to the relation of the individual self and the supreme Self (God). Here are some Biblical quotes regarding the son of man:

In revelations 1:17 the Son of Man says:

“Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last”, representing the beginning and the end. In revelations the image of the son of man is related to the revelatory vision of the seven lights of God (see Rev. 1 : 12: below). In this passage the son of man is described in terms of a being of light with eyes of flame, hands of stars, and a face with the strength of the sun.”

Rev. 1 : 12:

“And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; and his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.”

Rev. 14: 14:

“And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of Man, having on his head a golden crown,59 and in his hand a sharp sickle.”

Gen. 13.16:

“And I will multiply your seed like the dirt of the earth which no son of man.”

John 3: 14:

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up.”

Mark 2:10:

“But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins.”

Matthew 26:63-64:

“Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”

Daniel 7:13-14:

“I saw in the night-visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man , and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. There was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”

Daniel 8:16-18:

“I heard a man’s voice (קול–אדם) between the banks of the Ulai, which called, and said, “Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.”  So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened, and fell on my face: but he said to me, “Understand, son of man (בן–אדם) ; for the vision belongs to the time of the end.”  Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and set me upright.”

Matthew 13:37,41-42:

“He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man…. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
